Chronos, It Eats Me / Χρόνος, με τρώει / Zaman, O Beni Yiyor
Presented at Limassol Municipal Arts Center, Chronos, It Eats Me, is a major exhibition by Sümer Erek bringing together over five decades of portraiture, installation, and archival material shaped by memory, displacement, political violence, migration, and enduring friendship. Returning to the city of his birth, Limassol, Erek reflects on how time, history, and lived experience continue to shape both personal and collective identity.
Through damaged portraits, salvaged materials, installations, and fragmented archival references, the exhibition explores remembrance, loss, resistance, and the emotional traces left by Cyprus’ divided history. Rather than presenting fixed historical narratives, the works approach memory as something unstable, emotional, and continuously transforming — where decay, erasure, and fragmentation also hold the possibility of renewal and reimagining.
Accompanied by an essay by Fauve Alice and co-presented with Rinos Stefani, the exhibition reflects on solidarity, witnessing, and human connection across ethnic and political divides, proposing memory itself as a form of resistance against disappearance and forgetting.
